Lent is over! 40 days and 40 nights of cocoa cravings and no chocolate deserts ends with a chocolate brownie for breakfast, followed by two days of Easter eggs, profiteroles and chocolate hot cross buns. Yummy!
Once I get going, Lent is never as hard as I think it’s going to be. The first few days I have to remind myself that I’ve given something up, as I often almost forget, but once it’s drilled into my routine I hardly notice it. I think it’s generally the fear of change that makes it difficult, not the change itself.
I did however do a little more research into the story of Lent this year and I wish I’d done so earlier. It turns out that Lent ends on Maundy Thursday (the day of the Last Supper, or the day before Easter) not Easter Sunday as I’d always thought! So I’ve actually gone without chocolate for 43 days and 43 nights and have made the same mistake for as long as I can remember. Pretty stupid really.
So if there’s one lesson I’ve learnt from this whole process it’s that I’ll be sure to indulge on Thursday next year.
Happy Easter, Samantha x
