THIS WEEK’S STRANGER:
Matthew, Barista at Pret Kings Cross Station
The story behind the stranger: I was heading home after an evening in London and was craving a chamomile tea for the train journey. Pret have now stopped selling chamomile tea (I took this news pretty hard) so I was at a loss of what to buy. Matthew was so smiley and animated and started recommending his favourites left, right and centre and suddenly the tea-choosing thing got pretty serious! We spent a solid 3 or 4 minutes talking about tea, jokingly weighing up the pros and cons of each, it was great. When my tea was ready he handed it over and told me it was on the house. I protested but he insisted I take it as we’d “had a good giggle over tea”. So free tea for me, YAY!
Oh and in case you were wondering, I went for rooibos and cocoa. It was good, but it’s no chamomile.
I set up #smilewithastranger in order to celebrate brilliant people doing brilliant things and to champion those that go unnoticed. I take photos with people I meet, ask their name and job title (if relevant) and then post the selfies on my Instagram account.
