Yes, you read that right, I will be giving up chocolate for 40 days and 40 nights… eek!
I’ve always given up something for lent. (Last year it was coffee… I’m never doing that again!) I’m not religious and I never have been, but I honour the tradition for two reasons. The first is that I think discipline is important every now and then. Things are getting pretty easy for us humans and most of the time we get what we want, so there is no harm in reminding ourselves what it’s like to go without. The second reason is that we indulge in every other Christian tradition, whether we’re religious or not, so Lent should not be ignored. We get presents at Christmas, stuff ourselves silly with chocolate at Easter and make ginormous stacks of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. If we want to celebrate these joyous traditions we should partake in all of them, not just pick and choose the ones that give us something.
But anyway, to the important stuff!
Unfortunately, this ‘Lent’ thing means I won’t be whipping up any scrummy chocolate creations on my blog for a while. Apologies.
Fortunately, I love cake, so expect an increase in non-chocolate based sweet treats in an attempt to curb the sugar craving.
Are you giving up anything for Lent? I’d love to know! And if you haven’t given up chocolate this year then click here for some scrummy chocolate treats. Have a spoonful for me!
